Philosophy,
Ethics & Lifestyle:
Through the practice of journaling, sharing, and creative expression
we will truly embark on the practice of svadhyaya (self-study), yamas
(interactions with our community and the world) and niyamas (personal
discipline). Participants will adapt a yogic lifestyle at their own
pace and in their own unique way through gradual introductions of options,
and self-directed paths of interest.
Anatomy
& Physiology:
The ancient system of Yoga includes much more than a mere physical practice.
It is ultimately an all inclusive Holistic Health program for life.
The philosophy and practices include all parts of the human experience
including the mind, spirit, body, and breath. Through our studies we
will learn how all of these systems connect. We will study all of the
major systems of body function including; muscular, skeletal, nervous,
endocrine, digestion, cardio vascular, lymphatic, and reproductive.
The course also looks carefully at the energetic systems of the body
through the use of charka and meridian organization.
Teaching
Methodology:
Quality instruction and teaching skills through proper cueing, ‘tell-show-do’,
modeling behavior, gentle assists, and motivation techniques. You will
possess the knowledge necessary to teach a safe, effective, and thoroughly
holistic group yoga class as well as the skills needed to gently guide
a client in a private individualized setting.
Psychology
of motivation:
We will look closely at the different styles of learning that individuals
have. Exploring methods of yogic-lifestyle coaching to personalize the
experience of implementing yogic choices into daily life.
Asanas:
We will study the Asanas using the approaches and recommendations given
in the Yoga sutras Especially those sutras that focus on proper practice
and contemplation. Particular attention will be paid to each pose using
the following method of options:
1.The standard pose for safety of execution by most healthy individuals
2. Ways and methods of modifying each pose for specific populations
and individuals.
3. Understanding the ‘Ideal’ realization of each pose but respecting
what is ‘real’ for each practitioner and practice.
Pranayama:
The course encourages a great deal of attention and practice to the
methods of pranayama. The practitioner will learn several different
pranayama techniques and exercises systematically and chronologically
from the very simple to the more complex. Special emphasis will be given
to the bandhas and charkas. We will study the philosophy, the anatomy,
and the energy of breath using many modalities of yoga styles.
Chanting
& Meditation:
Introduction and practical experience in a variety of sacred chants
and meditation practices will be included. We will explore different
yogic methods of experiencing sound, space, senses, body, energy and
mind. A strong emphasis will be placed on self exploration and establishing
one’s unique individual practice.
